Cabrinha Domani Review: Hydro Gav Tests Our AR10 Foil

Independent foil reviewer Hydro Gav recently spent time on the Cabrinha Domani across parawinging and wing foiling.

Gav went in with high expectations. Especially for parawinging. He wants to go fast, cover ground efficiently, pump between bumps and still have a foil that turns naturally when he finds something worth riding, while remaining composed as speed builds. That's a hard balance for any foil to strike, and it's exactly what the Domani was designed to do.

Gav's full review runs just under ten minutes and covers the Union system, speed, pump and glide, turning, low-end performance and sizing.

What Is the Cabrinha Domani?

The Domani is the latest front wing in the Cabrinha Union foil system. With an aspect ratio of 10, it has been designed to make the most of the energy already in the water: carrying speed, maintaining momentum and giving the rider the freedom to turn and react to the swell.

Gav sees it as leading a new generation of AR10 foils that combine serious efficiency, pump and glide with genuinely usable turning. Looking at the wing itself, he points out the reinforced center section for stiffness and efficient pump transfer, progressively reducing in both profile and chord towards the tips to promote speed and roll response.

For an aspect ratio of 10, Gav also notes how compact the Domani feels, something he sees as an important part of why it combines efficiency with such a natural turning response.

Speed and Efficiency

The first thing Gav noticed on the water was efficiency. The Union system has always felt clean through the water and the Domani really complements it, with very little sense of drag whether driving upwind under power or gliding down the face of a bump.

What impressed him most was the top-end speed. Load the Domani up and it remains composed and predictable, even when fully powered or dropping into something steep.

It also carries that speed. Come off the back of a wave, keep the mast high and the Domani keeps travelling, making pumping far more effective because you're not constantly rebuilding speed. Even on the smaller sizes, Gav found it gives you more time between bumps than you might expect.

Turning: High-Aspect Efficiency, Built to Turn

This is where the Domani gets interesting.

For an AR10 foil, Gav found it extremely manageable in the turn. The roll is predictable, it carves when asked and releases cleanly, without locking the rider into an increasingly tight radius.

That gives the Domani a broad usable range, from long, efficient glides and connecting bumps to turning through more defined sections of swell.

Why the Domani Is a Great Parawing Foil

Gav's favourite discipline is parawinging, and he rates the Domani as an excellent fit. It gets you upwind fast with plenty of control and glides efficiently while powered. Once the parawing is packed away, the Domani's ability to preserve momentum provides the speed and glide needed to connect bumps and keep moving across the water.

Pair it with the Cabrinha Nomad, or read our guide to parawinging to get started.

For wing foiling, that balance opens a different side of the Domani. Speed and efficiency allow you to drive upwind and cover ground under power, but it's when the wing is flagged out that the combination really comes into play. The Domani carries speed onto the wave, while its predictable roll allows you to change direction, adjust your line and stay connected to the energy of the swell.

It's not about choosing between glide and turning. It's about having access to both.

Build Quality and the Union System

Gav also called out the presentation of the Union system. The new fixed track nuts simplify mounting, the dedicated case keeps everything together, the hardware feels properly finished and he rates the foil covers among the best in the business.

He also highlights the quality of the finish and carbon construction of the Domani itself.

Which Domani Size Should You Choose?

The Domani comes in five sizes, available as a front wing on its own or as a Domani Wing Kit with a Union stabilizer:

Domani Size Front Wing Only Wing Kit Tail Wing
580 Yes Union 160
700 Yes Union 160
830 Yes Union 160
960 Yes Union 160
1160 Yes Union 180

Gav spent time on the smaller Domani sizes, including the 700, where the performance focus of the design becomes particularly apparent. The smaller sizes reward an active riding style and enough power to generate initial speed, translating into exceptional speed, glide and efficiency once flying.

For riders spending more time in lighter conditions or looking to prioritize earlier lift, moving up through the Domani range allows the same design concept to be matched to rider weight, conditions and riding style.

Our foil guide explains how front wing size influences lift, speed and control and can help you find the right setup.

The Verdict

For Gav, the Domani shows where modern foil design is heading: combining the speed, glide and pump efficiency of a high-aspect foil with the freedom and predictability to turn.

Rather than excelling in one area at the expense of another, it's the way those characteristics work together that defines the Domani.

In Gav's words, “the Domani has set a very strong benchmark.”

Cabrinha Domani FAQs

What aspect ratio is the Cabrinha Domani?

The Domani has an aspect ratio of 10, placing it in the high-aspect foil category while maintaining a predictable roll response and maneuverability.

What sizes does the Cabrinha Domani come in?

The Domani is available in five sizes: 580, 700, 830, 960 and 1160. Each is available as a front wing on its own or as a wing kit with a Union stabilizer.

Is the Cabrinha Domani good for parawinging?

Yes. Its combination of upwind efficiency, speed, glide, pumping performance and maneuverability makes the Domani particularly suited to parawinging and connecting swell. These are also characteristics highlighted by Hydro Gav during his independent testing.

Can I use the Cabrinha Domani for wing foiling?

Yes. For wing foiling, the Domani combines efficient powered riding with the speed, glide and turning performance needed when the wing is flagged out and the focus shifts to riding the wave or swell.

Is the Cabrinha Domani good in light wind?

Choosing the right Domani size is important in lighter conditions. The smaller sizes prioritize speed and maneuverability and reward a more active takeoff, while moving up through the range provides increased lift and support for lighter conditions.

Does the Domani work with the Cabrinha Union system?

Yes. The Domani is part of the Union foil system and works with Union masts, fuselages and stabilizers. Browse the full Union range.
