GWA Gran Canaria FreeFly-Slalom by Elena Moreno

More than 40 knots of wind, a challenging course combining speed and free flying, with around 350 meters of pumping. A real challenge from start to finish.

The goal was to go as fast as possible, but in those conditions, finding the right balance was essential. With that much wind, it wasn’t just about speed—it was about staying in control to avoid being literally launched off the board.

I’m really grateful that the GWA brings events to my home. Gran Canaria offers incredible wingfoil conditions all year round, although sometimes it also shows its wild side. This event was definitely one of those occasions.

These have been intense days full of learning, adrenaline, and great memories. Seeing all the riders again, catching up with the GWA crew, and experiencing a World Tour event at home is something truly special.

This competition meant a lot to me because, even though waves are my main discipline, stepping into FreeFly Slalom was a completely new challenge. Having the support of my sponsor and everyone cheering me on from home gave me the confidence to step outside my comfort zone.

I finished the event in 11th place, competing alongside some of the best riders in the world. Beyond the final result, I take home valuable experience, new motivation, and the satisfaction of embracing a challenge I never expected to take on.

Because, in the end, competing isn’t always about winning; it’s about daring to step into the unknown, learning from every experience, and enjoying the journey!
